About Us

Our Story

For over a decade, food insecurity rates in Maryland and the nation’s capital have been on the rise. Many organizations have been working tirelessly to combat hunger in their communities, but their efforts have often been hindered by challenges such as limited resources, staffing constraints, and unpredictable demand. Despite their best intentions, some initiatives have fallen short of their goals.

Recognizing the need for a more sustainable and scalable solution, Food 4 Maryland was established out of necessity to help assist other organizations to meet there lofty goals. The demand for food assistance far exceeds the current supply, leaving many vulnerable groups without support. By pooling resources and expertise, Food 4 Maryland aims to increase the volume of food distributed while reducing expenses, thereby serving more people in need through our extensive reach and infrastructure.

The Power of Philanthropy Civic Leadership Award 2022

The evening proved to be both memorable and emotionally moving. The program started off with a moving tribute to the first Civic Leadership Award recipient, The Sardelis Family of Sardi’s Pollo A La Brasa. Founded in Prince George’s County, Sardi’s has quickly become a cornerstone of the community – both for the quality of its food, as well as its commitment to give back during the pandemic. The award was accepted by Phil E. Sardelis, whose cousin and co-founder, Phil G. Sardelis tragically passed away last year due to COVID complications.
